Cummings vs. Issa on IRS targeting probe

After reading his own opening statement, House Oversight Committee Chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Cal.) got so ticked that embattled former IRS official, Lois Lerner, was continuing to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, that he adjourned the hearing. That didn’t sit well with Ranking Member, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) who thought he too should be heard. Even after Issa cut off his microphone, Cummings kept on, for nearly ten minutes, shouting so the media microphones could still hear him.

  1. Total misrepresentation Mr. Goodfriend. Mr. Issa held a second hearing to see if he could get any insight into the IRS scandal. After the hearing was concluded due to Lerner repeatedly taking the 5th, Mr. Cummings was given an opportunity to ask a procedural question and instead chose to make a statement. After Mr Issa realized that Mr. Cummings was only looking to make a statement, Issa reminded him that the hearing concluded. In my opinion, Mr. Cumming was intentionally, trying to redirect the focus of the hearing away from the IRS scandal and cover up and instead get the media to focus a new story. Mr. Issa followed procedure, president, etiquette and respectful behavior. Mr. Cummings behaved in an shameful manner. It will be interesting to see tonight how the mainstream media handles that one tonight. Will it be that the wealthiest republican member of congress turned off the microphone of a heroic black congressman just trying to speak truth to power? Will any of the media report that yesterday, Obama changed the rules again with implementation of his signature legislation because it will embarrass the Democrats in November 2014?
